Profile: Nizar Sassi
Nizar Sassi was a participant or observer in the following events: French Guantanamo detainee Nizar Sassi sends his family a postcard on which he writes, “If you want a definition of this place, you don’t have the right to have rights.” [Guardian, 12/3/2003] Four French nationals, detained at Guantanamo, are transferred to the French government. They had never been charged with any crime. [US Department of Defense, 7/27/2004] They are Mourad Benchellali, Nizar Sassi, Imad Kanouni, and Brahim Yadel. [BBC, 10/4/2004] Apart from these French detainees, 18 have been transferred to the control of their governments: seven to Russia, four to Saudi Arabia, one to Spain, one to Sweden, and five to Britian. A total of 129 detainees have been released. [US Department of Defense, 7/27/2004]
